Dr. Velasco is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He graduated from Cook College, Rutgers University in 1978; received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in 1982; and completed his pediatric residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1985. Prior to joining Advocare South Jersey Pediatrics in 1990 he practiced pediatrics in Allentown, Pennsylvania. A firm believer in giving back to the community, Dr. Velasco has served the borough of New Hope, Pennsylvania as an elected councilman since 2003. Since 1988, Dr. Velasco, an avid runner, has completed 11 marathons including races in Boston; New York City; London; Philadelphia; San Francisco; and Washington, DC. Dr. Velasco is a passionate follower of the legendary British rock group, The Rolling Stones. Since 1972 he has been to 160 concerts worldwide, written several published articles, and met the band several times. He also enjoys reading Native American history; collecting pre-Industrial Revolution (1840) American painted furniture and pre-railroads (1880s) Navajo blankets and saddle blankets; gardening; and spending time with his four 4 dogs: Sophie, Gunner, Scout, and Gertrude.
